The Paiodd Numeral System
Just as the Paiodd alphabet is made up of the components shom 'stroke' and garbb 'hook', in which the different types of shom and garbb, as well as their position relative to each other determine the phonetic value of an individual sign, so the number system uses the same basic elements with numerical significance.
calpshom 'downstroke', indicates one times a value.
suitshom 'midstroke', indicates two times a value
onshom 'high stroke', indicates three times a value
biltcuilir 'left-facing'
- onsupíar 'air facing'
- atgarbb 'open hook' indicates one times a value.
- didoulgarbb 'curved hook' indicates two times a value
-nebulsupíar 'earth-facing'
- atgarbb 'open hook' indicates three times a value.
- didoulgarbb 'curved hook' indicates four times a value
rescuilir 'right-facing'
- onsupíar 'air facing'
- atgarbb 'open hook' indicates five times a value.
- didoulgarbb 'curved hook' indicatesten times a value
-nebulsupíar 'earth-facing'
- atgarbb 'open hook' indicates fifteen times a value.
- didoulgarbb 'curved hook' indicates twenty times a value
Consequently, the bare calpshom alone can indicate the value of rum, one. But so can the calpshom with a left facing open hook (biltcuilir atgarbb). The suitshom 'midstroke' can indicate aerum. two, but so can the suitshom with biltcuilir atgarbb, or even the biltcuilir didoulgarpia calpshom (left-facing curved-hooked downstroke.
There are additional signs for 100, 200, 300, and 400, as well as 1000, 2000, 3000, and 4000, respectively. Below is a link to the numbers with their corresponding symbol in the script.
